So, what do you all think of this movement in the states? Do you agree with the idea?

Well of course animals should have rights and be protected and cared about. I love animals.

I believe animals have rights. They are living creatures and personally I feel every creature has the right to live with out fear of being abused or otherwise hurt. When you get scientific, people are animals too. It always upsets me when I see dogs or cats dumped or in the case I heard recently a puppy was burned alive. It is sickening and someone should be punished for it. That sort of stuff infuriates me to no end. However, I also believe there can be animal rights extremist and extremist ideas I don't agree with. For instance, three are some who with no real understanding, condemn the use of guide dogs. Filing it under abuse. Are there some guide dog users who abuse their guides? sadly yes and that disgusts me. However, you find more pet owners guilty of a crime like that then guide dog users. Also, a guide is not forced to be one if they don't want to be. I would have more respect for a person who researched the truths about guide dog work and still considered it wrong. I would disagree with their opinion but have more respect all the same since it wasn't just assumptions. Anyway, I digress. I am all for protecting animals rights, they have no voice so someone has to be it for them. Just my opinion.

again, the animal rites movement is not just in the states. we have a large hard line faction here, as well as the animal wellfair orgs, wich should not be confused with hard line activitsts for animal rights like ALF and others.

Many who say they are for animal rights are more for animal wellfare, I think. I am in that camp;
animals we own should be treated as well as possible, but no animal - including us - lives without some fear of death. Some extremists on the Animal Liberation front shuld see how most mammals ignore, abandon, rape and pillage each other.
The reason your dog doesn't, because you taught it not to, and its stomach is full.
The idea that dog guide use is abuse is entirely absurd. I myself don't use a dog guide, but have had nothing but for those who do. They are quite selfless in their care for their dogs.
Also, we can't afford to put an animal's wellfare above a human's.
Would a bear rescue you? If you were in danger, a nearby deer would only run to save its own skin.
There are rare tales of an animal rescuing - or coinciding with the rescue of - a person. However, these are the rare exceftion, which is precisely what makes them newsworthy.
As to the post about the puppy burning, or any cruelty in that fashion, peorple like that are not only disgusting, but dangerous. Serial killers and others often started out being cruel to animals.

Animals have the right to feed me.
Accept for the ones who don't taste good, they have the right to have products tested on them so that they don't hurt me.

except for the fact that just because it may not hurt the animal it still may hurt you. Since we are all different in chemical make up. And as I said before animals have as much of a right to live as you do. Just my opinion though. I am aware of being a carnivore and that animals can be sustanence however needless exploitation of animals or meaningless cruelty and pointless testings are just wrong to me. blinding a rabbit by putting an overdoze of eye drops into their eyes serves what purpose? that if a person puts a crap load of drops into their eyes they will go blind too? well, honestly if you can't figure out that you shouldn't empty en entire bottle into your eyes at once it is kind of your fault. Again jmo
